The quantity of food donated by retailers through our normal weekly food recovery programs and processes is diminishing. Just as consumers are experiencing empty shelves at their local grocery stores, those same stores, therefore, are reducing the amount of product to pull from their shelves at night for donation to the food bank.
FNEFL continues to look for opportunities to purchase food by the truckload to supplement our inventory as we work to meet an ever-increasing demand. We are in daily calls with Feeding Florida and with the State of Florida’s Emergency Management teams and have emergency supplies being deployed. We are working to keep a steady inventory of produce coming into the warehouse to assist hard-hit Florida farmers and to be able to continue to provide fruits and vegetables to our agencies and mobile pantries.
