Each day in Northeast Florida 257,300 people have to make tough choices. The reality of hunger is that it hides in plain sight. Local families, children, seniors, and veterans are choosing between paying the rent on time, getting the car fixed, filling their prescriptions, or buying groceries. The majority of people who struggle with hunger have jobs, homes and children but are unable to make their paychecks stretch to cover all of their expenses.
Professional golfer Billy Horschel has pledged to continue his support of hungry families for the 5th consecutive year by donating $1,000 for each birdie and $5,000 for each eagle he makes during the 2020 THE PLAYERS Championship tournament from March 12 - 15.
But Billy isn't going to stop there. He is challenging his friends, sponsors, and you to help #DriveOutHunger. Not everyone is a top ranked professional golfer, but everyone can do something to fight hunger. Sell lemonade, mow lawns, or skip a meal. Do whatever it is you do - and donate to help families in need. No matter the size of your investment every $1 donated will enable Feeding Northeast Florida to provide 6 meals to those in need.
"It's more than just the money," Horschel said. "A lot of people can write the check and then feel good about it, but I want to be a part of something where you can see the end result, can see the light at the end of the tunnel and when you're helping feed people, you can see the light."
